Our mission is to create the best possible healing environments through the use of appropriate and inspired artwork.

Our workshops feature guidelines and inspiration for the creation of the art that makes the resulting image incredibly effective in creating warm and wonderful environments for patients, families and caregivers.

Elements such as colour palette, theme, scale and complexity of images all play important roles in the creation of the art and the way that patients respond to it. There are many issues that we have to be sensitive to when trying to appeal to kids and parents in a medical/hospital environment. We hold  workshops for participants young and old who are interested in creating this kind of art. The workshops guide the artist through the process while allowing the individual’s creative flair and technique to shine through.

For the adults that participate in the workshops, we encourage them to approach their art with a youthful heart.   It makes the workshops more fun and results in a whimsical kind of artwork that the young can relate to ...and the adults find very refreshing.

Background
In 2001, after years of renovating rooms in Children’s Hospitals, we realized that the most important element for the kids was what went up on the walls...the artwork. However little was available that was suitable for the range of ages that we needed to appeal to. The kids and parents also felt as though traditional art (most readily available as prints) was often too young and cartoonish. We then started asking kids to create and donate art and, while much of it was wonderful, most of the pieces were too striking and bold or featured subject matter (ie animals with big eyes) that was not suitable for a patient or parent in a stressed state of mind.

So, after years of research, testing, and more testing (with patients, parents, caregivers and medical staff) we have assembled a group of criteria that, when used, results in a luminous and heartwarming collections of art that appeals to a wide range of ages. Thus our workshops were started for people of all ages and have continued for 9 years.

The workshops are fun and inspiring, and our participants (and recipiants), are always thrilled with their creations!
