Choosing Art by Its Intended Location

Patient, Recovery and Treatment Rooms

In these rooms, less is more.  One or two simple but large, uncomplicated images will go a long way towards creating a comforting environment.  The intention here is NOT to “wow” the patient with spectacular art, but rather to create a space with pleasant colours that is warm and comfortable…almost familiar.

Images should not be too detailed… so that the patient does not have to strain their eyes in order to fully appreciate the art.

For these areas, you will want to choose simple images and have it printed fairly large (at least 20x30”).  If you choose a piece of art featuring an animal, make sure that it is not looking towards the viewer and the colours are not too strong.

Corridors

Corridors can accommodate more active colours than patient rooms, but not images that are too detailed as they are often harder to digest as you are passing by.  Often patients and family members are walking down a corridor looking for a particular room.  Their state of mind is often somewhat frayed and they need to feel calm and reassured…like they are truly in the right place for the best healthcare.

Waiting Rooms

These rooms can accommodate more vibrant colour and details because patients need to be distracted.  Often they have a longer period to wait without the benefit of medical personnel to answer questions and reassure them.

They also have the ability to get up and walk over to the images if they like (as opposed to being in a bed and having to strain their eyes across the room to see the detail).  In addition,  there is often someone else with them to talk to and they can be occupied in other ways (book, magazines, TV) if the artwork is not as suitable for them.

In these areas, it is ideal to have several images from a similar theme.  The background colour on the wall can be one that works well with the theme and it is far less expensive and less time consuming than having a mural painted.

Virtually ALL of our art collection is suitable for waiting rooms.

We highly recommend framing all prints with a large white matt, simple frame and a plexyglass front (instead of glass).

For large orders, you can contact us for framing prices as well.
